Julia Martin the UK’s No1 tribute artiste to Dame Shirley Bassey is back in talks to present a second television programme with regard to her ownership of the largest private collection of original Dame Shirley Bassey Gowns. This new programme to be screened later this year follows on from an earlier programme made about Julia’s purchase of these sensational gowns. It will take Julia around the world in a quest to interview other individual owners of Shirley Bassey Gowns and will hopefully conclude with another meeting and interview with Dame Shirley Bassey herself.

Julia had a fantastic gig performing her Dame Shirley Bassey tribute show with original gowns to a packed theatre audience on P&O’s latest edition to the fleet the ‘MV Ventura’. Julia was flown out to the Caribbean with KLM to St Maarten with a night in the hotel and then joining the Venture the next day. After two 40 minute performances with the resident 7 piece band it was into relax mode with a further 3 days spent cruising the Caribbean Islands before flying back home to a very cold and wet UK from Grenada with Virgin Atlantic.

Julia Martin was back in action again with her Dame Shirley Bassey tribute, helping to raise over £10,000 for the NSPCC. Julia’s company JM Productions, themed the night around a 007 Bond Night and was responsible for supplying the casino tables, croupiers, Bond & Jaws look-alikes and Golden Girl statues. A wonderful night was had by all with Julia receiving a standing ovation for her Shirley Bassey tribute from the 200 guests who had paid over £100 a ticket to attend this glittering event.

A quick trip and flight out to Prague was the order of the day when Julia was invited to headline the Vodafone awards with her Dame Shirley Bassey tribute. This glittering event took place in the world famous Zoffin Palace and attracted delegates from around the world. Julia wearing a selection of original Shirley gowns entertained the audience of 300 people for over 60 minutes, using not only the stage and dance floor, but also moving between the tables whilst singing a collection of Bassey songs covering some 50 years.

This was the first of many visits for Julia to Dubai during 2009 and what a spectacular visit this was. Because of a full dairy Julia could only afford the time to spend an action packed three days in this fabulous city when she was flown out to bring in the New Year at the Marine Beach Resort in the shadow of the world famous Burj Al Arab hotel. Julia presented her Dame Shirley Bassey show to a packed audience of over 600 people who had paid £200 a ticket to attend this star studded event. The fireworks, stage set and lighting was a tribute to the organisers and was outstanding even by Dubai standards. However the comment from the organisers at the end of the night that Julia’s show was the highlight of such a stunning celebration was merit enough to make the 72 hour round trip all the more worthwhile.

Julia Martin finally got to meet the Dame herself, when she was invited to a lavish private party thrown by Dame Shirley Bassey to a select audience of just 50 people. Julia spent the evening chatting to Dame Shirley and mixing with guests including broadcaster David Frost, fashion designer Isabelle Kristensen and rock star Bryan Adams. This glittering occasion took place at Christie’s auction house in London where Dame Shirley was auctioning 50 of her most prized stage gowns to celebrate 50 years in show business.

The proceeds went to Dame Shirley’s favourite charities and a whopping £250,000 was raised, with the highest price gown going for a staggering £35,000. Julia helped towards these proceeds by becoming the highest individual purchaser on the night buying some seven stage gowns including the world famous Douglas Darnell creation ‘The Gypsy Gown’ used by Dame Shirley to open many of her shows in the early sixties. These stunning and prized gowns with such a fabulous history are all now being used to great effect in Julia’s tribute show to Dame Shirley Bassey.
